Reconciliation

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, is an important step in a child’s spiritual growth, where they experience God's mercy and forgiveness. Through the sacrament, children confess their sins, receive absolution, and are reconciled with God and the Church, preparing them to fully participate in the Eucharist.

At Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, children typically prepare for First Reconciliation in second grade, as part of their faith formation. Preparation includes enrollment in our parish’s religious education program or attendance at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, where they receive instruction on sin, forgiveness, and the process of confession. Parents also attend a First Reconciliation parent meeting, where they are provided with guidance and resources to help their child understand the sacrament.

The children practice the prayers and steps of confession as part of their preparation, and the sacrament is celebrated in a special service. First Reconciliation is a significant and joyful moment in their faith journey. While this marks the first time they receive the sacrament, we encourage families to continue participating in Confession regularly, as it is an ongoing means of spiritual growth and reconciliation with God.
